Embracing Oil = GOP Revival (?)

The "how could we lose" blame game is in full swing. Not too surprisingly, everyone has a theory that goes something like this: we lost because the party forgot what I have been saying all along.

Steven Milloy is the full time anti-environmentalist at Fox News. He's now come up with the path back to power, and its paved with oil.

"Averting that [green agenda] disaster and championing domestic production is the path to victory in 2010."

Yep, Steven thinks the "greens" are who the GOP needs to run against. That will bring in those midwestern swing-voters for sure?!?

It is not a very good piece, but it demonstrates that there still exist many in the GOP who just hate the idea of any new environmental initiatives, even if we do get our oil from countries that hate us (and we will continue to do so regardless of any marginal increase in domestic production).

This is not anything to be overly worried about: every wing of the party will get something like this aimed its way as the circular firing squad empties its ammo over the next few months. The moderates and $-cons will say we have to get away from social issues (though I didn't hear too much about those in the McCain campaign); the social conservatives will say that the McCain moderates lost, so we just need to get back to core conservative principles (and the core list will of course vary depending on who is talking); and there will be a variety of other theories offered as well. But Milloy's theory that we Republicans should simply embrace our media caricature as the Party of Big Oil may be the dumbest idea I have heard yet.
