Evangelical Manifesto coming Wednesday

Look for a major roll-out this Wednesday. A new "sign here" statement seeking to reclaim (and explain) the term "Evangelical" is set for release in Washington. A story has already hit the AP wires, but my advice it to wait until Wednesday and then read the full statement, not just a few snippets. Having seen an earlier draft, I'm looking forward to the final product. Sadly, much of the press is likely to focus on who is "in" or "out" of the signatory list---thus spinning as divisive a statement drafted to get beyond the current culture war divides. Perhaps it will be asking too much, but here's hoping that the reporters covering this story will actually read the document, not just the last page of names.
