Big money Obama first promised to live within public financing limits if the Republican would. McCain did. Obama went back on his word. The media let it slide . . . until now.

You might want to look at Bob Kerrey's Nov.4,2008 comment on the editorial page of the NY Times re public financing of political campaigns.
His direct quote is that "He made the right choice" in reference to Obama's decision to opt out of public financing. That would seem to preclude any accusation of hypocrisy by Kerrey.
An agreement to consider public financing is not a "promise" to do so.
In any event, the electorate has made a historic choice, and now we will have an opportunity to see if they have made the right choice.

Here is the quote from Kerrey's NY Post op/ed to which Campbell Brown was referring:
The next time we speak of the virtue of level playing fields or state our strong belief that democracy can't survive in the modern age unless big money is taken out of campaigns, we'll be counting on our audience's forgetting our silence this year, when the free market was flowing in our direction.
A hypocrite is a person who puts on a false appearance of virtue - who acts in contradiction to his or her stated beliefs or feelings. And that, it seems to me, is what we're doing now.
