Rest in Peace William F. Buckley

Today brought the sad news of William F. Buckley's passing. Yet, it seems clear that it was a life well lived, and he crosses over to eternity as a firm defender of the Christian faith.

Perhaps less well known was his status as a conservative conservationist. Although not a primary driver of his thought, his keen mind did engage the topic. Unlike the radio blowhards and their cable TV cousins now dominating the public discourse (such that it is), Buckley was capable of engaging in prolonged deep thought. The following piece demonstrates that Buckley was probably still thinking through the full impact of the global warming debate. Nevertheless, merely by publishing his developing opinion when he did Buckley undoubtedly softened the right wing knee-jerk against the Evangelical Climate Initiative. Kudos to him for that and more broadly for engaging culture with wit, determination, intelligence, and class.
